Edge Safety Officers......well a few years ago.

Another picture from the past showing how things have changed......That rope really is tied around his chest.....and as for helmets....

How are the ropes actually anchored in that photo? Is that big bar in the picture something to do with it or is it some sort of counterweight?

Barry - we will show you the modern version of this at somepoint. It most cases the ropes in any of our rescues are attached to "holdfasts" however recently we can in certain cases attach ropes to "Land anchors" or natural objects like large trees and rocks. The bar in the picture is called a "Scotsman" - not sure why its called that, but this is a device to stop the ropes digging into the cliff edge - again a topic for another blog.
