Uruguay 1 - 0 Swanage Coastguard

Coastguard Chris wasn't around last Thursday or Saturday and he's off this this Tuesday evening at 17:00.

Wonder what he's up to?

It's odd because you never see him when Uruguay play football!

Anyway, imagine my surprise this morning when I opened my digital packet of Panini Football Stickers and was confronted by Uruguayan Goalkeeper 'Fernando Muslera'.

Coastguard Chris AKA 'Fernando'

Yes it appears Chris has been moonlighting as an international football star.

Oh, in case you are interested I've nearly finished the digital sticker album, just need to make a few more swaps.

Screwball

Whilst Roger is busy letting the train take the strain, Chris one of our other newer recruits is driving round Europe this weekend, taking part in the Screwball Rally.

The rules are something like this.
1. Buy a car for less than £750
2. Drive it any route you like through Europe, meeting up with other Screwballers at a predetermined campsite each night
3. Have fun and be safe
4. Raise a few bob for charity.

Chris, who is a student paramedic, has two ambulance crew colleagues with him on the rally and between them they've invested in a gleaming X-reg Nissan Primera at a bargain £150 inside the spending limit.  She really is a beauty.  Never raced or rallied.  Yet.

The convoy left Dover on Thursday and is expected to take in 1800 miles through France, Italy, Switzerland and Liechenstein (wherever that is ??).

The guys are raising money for Help for Heroes as can be seen by the car decals, and they'd be really chuffed if you wanted to contribute to the cause.  Its so easy...click here.

Hope you're having a great time Chris and see you soon.

Second Aid

After our First Aid training the other week, we had some more tonight, presumably that makes it Second Aid.  The session was led by our very own Chris, himself is a student paramedic, and it concentrated on the sorts of scenarios we might come across as Coastguards.

In particular we looked at dealing with unresponsive casualties and administering CPR using a life sized dummy.
Look at what you missed, Brian!

What you won't always find in the manuals is the bit about making the casualty comfortable with coke and jaffa cakes, but here in Swanage we like to be hospitable to the people we rescue.

NB. Other fizzy drinks are available, although I'm not sure if there is any other orange centred confectionery available with a chocolate coating one side complemented with a tasty sponge the other. Have to check next time I'm in Budgens.

NB. Other supermarkets are available in Swanage selling a range of  fizzy drinks and lip-smackingly good confectionery

Chris

Slightly late with apologies, this is Chris, one of newer members of the team who joined us in January.

Chris's full time occupation is a trainee Paramedic (skills that may come in handy??)  We have learnt that prior to joining the Coastguard, Chris liked to jump out of aeroplanes and hoping the pack on his back was his parachute not his old school bag.
