Something different

For last nights training we headed up to Anvil Point, but then I had sprung a surprise. No we weren't going over the cliff. How do you get the stretcher from one side of the valley to the other, and then with Austen and I out the way (on the other side of the valley) we let Gareth take the helm and plan the job.

Mission complete and they all did a very good job at it, oh and if you want to know how wide the gap is?

Answer 153 metres.

How'd you manage to get a line across that? And how deep is that valley?

Impressive stuff!

We could use a Rocket Line and fire a thin wire accross the gap, much like RNLI and then pull the ropes i.e. main line and whips accross. We didn't have one but we have Austen Rockett on the team so instead we 'fired' him to walk over the other side.

And the valley? well lets say its a bit deep and we didn't put anyone on this time.

Put it this way if you fell off you'd be picking gorse thorns out of your 'derriere' for weeks.

Ah, right. I did wonder if you'd fire a line across somewhere or whether you'd have to find some unlucky volunteer to go climbing!

Thanks for the reply.

Sadly the Coastguard don't have rockets anymore (other than Austen Rocketts!) There is a device on the Lifeboats called a speedline which is used to fire a line from a lifeboat to a boat if required, so if we ever needed one we would have to ask the RNLI for one. The purpose of the training was to set the equipment up in a different way but still within the safety limits of each item used. Sadly these days health and safety would not allow us to put a "human" across for traning purposes.
