Rid's Turn

At the last training session, after we managed to get Austen out of the dry suit (no easy task!) up stepped Rid for a go and equally his enthusiasm got the better of him!

interesting to see its a snap gate crab not a screwgate?.... any reasons for this? Did a recent water rescue course and snap gates were frowned upon due to risk of them getting snagged and not "rigged" properly....

This is the model supplied and specified by the MCA. These have different gates to our regular cliff carabiners, they aren't solid but are skeletal more like a large paper clip. This prevents a build up of water pressure forcing the gate open.
There's also an emergency release so that if ever the technician needed to free himself from the line he can do so quickly, leaving the line, carabiner and concertina elastic behind.
