The predicted weather has arrived and its not the normal weather we expect in August.

Whilst there are plenty of warnings and cancellation of events, they are done to protect people and not to spoil peoples fun or activities.

Another glorious day in Swanage today; it could be April or May rather than December!

Its a great opportunity to get in some scenic walks along coast path or along the ridges.

Have a great day,  but be prepared for slippery paths and a sudden temperature drop when the sun goes down.  Stay safe.

Further Stormy Weather on the way

A period of further heavy rain with possible large waves could hit the south coast over night and into tomorrow.

The Coastguard patrol was out during day light hours checking the damage and giving safety advice.

 

Large waves can throw large rocks and stone debris inshore so coastal users should take care.

 

A Yellow weather warning is in place for Monday for heavy rain but unlike last night, the weather will arrive during daylight hours

Easter Monday looks like it's going to be very stormy with Storm Katie heading up the channel.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Dorset and an amber warning for Hampshire to the east.

Another big storm is just arriving off the west of the UK and due to cross the country.

Storm 10 winds are possible going into tomorrow (Monday)

An amber weather warning has been issued - be prepared , is your journey necessary in the next 24 hours for example.

The storm will create large waves of the South Coast and we urge readers to take care and not to venture too close to breaking water.

A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for East Coast of Dorset.

Flooding is possible for Castletown, Weymouth, Preston Beach, Swanage Bay, Studland Bay, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Beach, Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour this afternoon and early evening.

Low lying coastal land and roads will be affected first.

Be prepared.



This Flood Alert affects the whole of the East Coast of Dorset particularly at Preston Beach. The time and date of the forecast high water for which this Flood Alert is in force is 05:30 pm (Local time) on Saturday 06/02/2016

The forecast wind direction is southerly

The forecast wind strength is Force 8

Strong winds and waves will affect coastal paths, harbour walls and promenades from mid afternoon onwards.

The following Flood Alert will remain in force for at least two hours following the time of high tide.

We will be monitoring the situation carefully and will update this message if the situation deteriorates.

There are weather warnings in place of rain and wind , an amber warning is in place for rain in Devon.

Ground conditions are now a problem due to the amount of rain received recently so if you are out on a coastal walk take care.

Weather watch

The storm that brought snow to the east coast of America is heading our way.

Thankfully it's not going to snow but it could bring heavy rain and gale force winds.

The storm will arrive tomorrow ( Tuesday) and with already very wet fields and roads we urge you to take care.

Further updates will follow if the various agencies upgrade their warnings.

Ice warning

With a Yellow weather warning in force over night, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.

With the rain we have had in the last few weeks this is still running off the fields in places on to the road.
This could freeze over night and with only the main road being gritted will leave untreated road surface prone to ice.

Please drive carefully , why not set that alarm clock 10 minutes earlier tonight to give yourself plenty of time to get to work?

Ensure you keep your distance from the vehicle in front and generally reduce your speed to meet what may just be round the corner.

Feeling the squeeze

With the winter storms the low water yesterday showed the affects the weather has had on the beach.

The beach has been pushed up and the effects of the waves and has moved the sand off shore.

After the rain......

After that deluge of rain, the team deployed on patrol to check the local hotspots.

Team deployed to slow traffic and stop waves entering the little cottage.



We would like to remind drivers to avoid flood water.
Only proceed if its safe to do so , slow down when approaching flooded roads but keep revs up. Aways check the depth, never proceed if the depth is more than the bottom of you tyres.



It is also an offence to purposely speed up to soak the poor residents who were clearing the drains. Two vehicles were seen to do this on the main road and put other road users at risk.

Careful on the Roads

Please take care on the roads flooding on the Swanage to Studland road at the moment. This is currently outside the station.

Storm Frank

Weather warnings are currently in place for coastal areas from Aberdeen to Shetland and from Stornoway, Belfast, down to Holyhead, Milford Haven and Falmouth as Storm Frank approaches.

Although additional rainfall may have an impact over land, it’s the predicted high winds that continue to cause most concern for the UK Coastguard.

Check the weather and tidal conditions before you set out so you can prepare your vessel accordingly or even ask yourself whether you should be going out at all.

Don't be tempted to go out and photographs in stormy weather No photograph or selfie is worth risking your life for.


However, as always, if you do see someone in trouble or are in trouble yourself, then call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Flood Alert

The following flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for East Coast of Dorset.



Flooding is possible for Castletown, Weymouth, Preston Beach, Swanage Bay, Studland Bay, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Beach, Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour.



The Flood Alert is in Force for the morning tide on Wednesday 30th December.



High tide for Swanage on the 30th December 2015 is 10.15 am (2.10 meters)



Expect strong winds, Force 8 Southerly and big waves along the exposed Dorset Coast.  Spray is likely on Coastal roads.





Be aware and careful along beaches, promenades, coastal paths and roads.

Looks like a rather blustery day

A trip to Studland today and it was rather wet and windy.




A very strong offshore wind, and rain showers blocking the view towards Old Harry.

Always good to check the weather forecast if you going out and remember the weather slightly off shore can be different to that stood on the beach.

Desmond's effects on the South

Whilst we escaped the major effects of Storm Desmond it was still felt along the South.




The scene at Durlston Head yesterday afternoon.

Gale force 8 - Moderately High waves with breaking crests forming spindrift. Well marked streaks of foam are blown along wind direction. Considerable airborne spray.

Wave height 5.5 to 7.5.






Slightly quieter at Studland due to the protection of the land but still the sand was being moved at a rate.

1. Yellow warning of wind

   To:

   1800 on Sun 29 November

   A blustery weekend is expected across England and Wales with winds strengthening from the west on Saturday morning. Gusts around coastlines exposed to the westerly or southwesterly winds could reach 60 mph at times. Inland gusts will be less frequent but could still reach 50 to 55 mph. Further strengthening from the west is expected on Sunday where gusts around western coasts could locally reach 70 mph. Elsewhere gusts of 60 mph are possible, particularly in western areas.
   
   Please be aware of the potential for some disruption due to the strong winds.
