Keep it Clean!

We always clean and check our kit after we've used it and before it is put away, and Terry has found  novel way to make sure everyone's boots are clean before they go into the station following a muddy cliff exercise last month.

Terry's actually a bit of a demon with the pressure washer, and it has to be said, when a new one arrived on station recently it was as though all his Christmases had come at once!

Throwing Shapes

Coastguard Terry has a special Coastguard pose every time he's on a search or cliff rescue. We thought it was something that came naturally but now we've been sent some evidence that it's something he practices seriously. It's even better when it's his turn to wear the 'Frozen' dress, which is generally on Tuesday; watch this space.

Caption: Terry 'Throwing a Teapot'.

The Word Up is that he might make a Cameo later this week.

Tall Stories

There's a bit of light hearted banter and some fierce rivalry amongst the team about who's the tallest. And more importantly who isn't. You see there are three members of the team whose uniform sizes read XS and yet they're still too big.

So yesterday we decided to judge once and for all

On the far left and right we have the judges, Jayden (coastie overalls) and Roger (minion hat - no, we don't know why either). In the centre of the shot, the three competitors, Ian in the high viz, Kerry in the shades and Terry in the, in the.....Terry, where are you?  Terry?, Terry?....oops, clearly not quite tall enough to make the photo.

So that's it, Terry's the most down to earth member of the team, the one who still gets half price at the cinema and the last to know its raining when he goes outside. And as for the other two...has Ian spiked his hair up?  Is Kerry on tip-toes?   The reader must decide.

2014 Coastguard of The Year - Terry Edmunds

The 2014 Coastguard of the Year is Terry Edmunds.

Oh look at his happy little face.
A worthy winner of the 'Michael 'Spike' Williamson Award

The award is voted on by the team and given to the Coastguard who has gone the extra mile - in this case Terry has almost polished our truck to death this year; and he's carried on in good humour despite family illness and his house nearly falling down.

He's also been voted 'The clown that inflated a lifejacket in the back of the truck ...of the year' a new award for clowns that that pull the 'emergency only toggle' when sitting in the truck.

Terence meets Ben

Here's a lovely photo of 12 year old Terence Edmunds meeting his hero TV Presenter Ben Fogle.

Terence won a local car washing competition, and the first prize was to join the Coastguard Team for an evening up at Old Harry. Terence was ever so excited to meet Ben and explained that he liked Harry Potter, cleaning things and that his favourite music was Girls Aloud.

When he's older Terence wants to be a teacher '...because they work short hours and get lots of holidays.'

Aww ...... Look how excited he is.
(Terence that is, Ben's not fussed ...he does this a lot)

Terry - A personal tribute

Sharp eyed readers will have noticed that Terry has not been mentioned for a while on the website or the blog.
Well the sad news is that Terry has left the team after 12 years of service to the Coastguard in Swanage and a previous stint in the Kimmeridge team.

I would like to personally thank Terry for his valuable service to the team especially around the medical side of training and during incidents. For me Terry was very supportive when Spike passed away and a great mentor in many other ways, our very best wishes you will be missed - Ian

Ferry Terry's 1st Day at work

Today is Terry's 1st day in his new office and he will soon to be at the controls of the Bramble Bush Bay.

Thankfully for Terry the ferry can only go forwards and backwards and the only major issues are:

Stopping at each end of the chain (or you will find the ferry up at the toll boxes)
Remember to put the ramps down.
Which way to push the lever to make it go forward.
Dodge the thousands of yachts and boats in the summer.
Give way to Barfleur when she comes in and out of the harbour.
Remember to move every 20 minutes
Not to go fishing when things are a little slack.

Of course Terry is not the 1st team member that works on the ferry, our Paul normally works in the toll booth. Any rumours that the whole team will be working on the ferry by August should be discounted.

Pants are down....

Only the other day a regular blog reader visited the station and asked about Terry's shop.... which coincidently is having an..
End of Season Sale
at Terry’s Shop
Up to 50% on selected lines.

Regular readers will know of coastguard team member Terry’s retirement from the ambulance service and decision to set up a swimwear / lingerie shop over on Tenerife.

As he said at the time he thought it was a 'good opportunity to get into ladies underwear'…..so to speak.

Well at the end of a very successful summer season he is making room for the winter collection; fur lined swimsuits and all that I assume.

So the sale is on....Pants are down… and brassieres half off.

Above: Terry's Shop Tenerife.
So if you’re over in Tenerife pop in and grab some pants.
Above: Terry modelling the new 'Nexus 1A-PRO-10 Deluxe' waterproof moustache.
(Available in grey, off grey, dark white)
There's an extra 10% off Speedo swimwear for Coasties who can produce their membership card.

Royal Protection

Terry having Police protection during this years carnival procession. His vehicle played an important part this year, not only was it the back up vehicle in case the mobile got called out (which it did!) but also acted like a buffer in case those lifeboat chaps lost control of that lifeboat that they were pulling! (which they didn't!)

Moonlightling?

Deputy Blog mentioned this incident this week, a chap using a road guide to sail around the UK!

Well the Sun Newspaper ran the story, but our interest was more taken but the Coastguard on the left. Is this our Terry we all said? We know he travels the world but we never thought he took his overalls!

Your in safe hands

Like a major DIY store on a Wednesday, we also run special days out for a certain age group and today it was the turn of Terry and Eric.

Despite the looks, (yes we think he looks like Inspector Frost on the TV series A Touch of Frost), Terry is the Team's medical advisor and through his advice (sometimes at the end of the telephone) and his skill people's injuries have been treated a lot quicker and improved their recovery.

So as the patrol headed down the ferry road they came across a young man who had fallen off his bike and with skin versus tarmac, there is only one winner!
So our secret weapon got straight into action and started treatment until the ambulance arrived.

Every team should have one.....

Hedging your bets on the Zig Zag Path

I can confirm that Terry definitely did not fall face first into a hedge yesterday afternoon at Zig Zag Path. At no point, whatsoever did he slip and end upsidedown in the undergrowth.

In fact I don’t know why I am writing this blog because it definitely did not happen....at all...ever.

Phew! Terry I think you got away with it..... ;-)

Where's (Wally) Terry ???

Terry has gone missing again, so we've sent out a search party.

So lets play 'Where's Terry!'

Is he in the kitchen eating biscuits.......no!

Is he in the stationary cupboard eating sweets........no!

Is he under the MRU, playing with his iphone......no!

Is he at his shop in Tenerife selling ladies' swimsuits......ooh er no missus!

There's Terry.....swimming in a pool in Mauritius, and drinking pino colades!!!!

He's concentrating,... if the moustache gets wet it shrinks!

Meanwhile in other news, the film Moby Dick is on BBC1 at 7:30 this evening.

To be fair we do miss him; come back Terry!

Terry and Tom

Looks like Terry and Tom, our very own Stadler and Waldorf have been on the internet again!

I’m so dead for this.

“But this isn’t very ‘Coastguardy’?!” I hear the reader cry.

Well it is sort of, more later of how Waldorf and Stadler do actually play a part!

Our man in Tenerife

Our "man" in Tenerife sent an urgent email this week, stating that he had at long last tracked down where Terry had retired to.

Readers will remember that Terry retired from the Ambulance Service a month or so ago and since then we haven't seen him with claims of him working on his bath room and kitchen.

Well at last we found him, yes in fact Terry is selling swimwear and ladies underwear out in Tenerife, perhaps the shop name could have been a little more original but when your in a panic to leave the country I guess you use what come in your head first.

iPhone

iPhone.

“Did I tell you I’ve got a new iPhone?” said Terry flashing his snazzy new gadget about.
“Have you?” said I, knowing perfectly well that he had because he told me ten minutes previously and ten minutes previously to that.

“Do you want to know the weather in Honolulu? If you did just ask and I’ll look it for you on my new iPhone with embedded 3G internet.”

You see Terry knows that I should love an iPhone but that I haven’t quite got to the procurement stage yet. He’s also a great wind-up-merchant.

“It takes photos too!...and music…and…and…and.”

In my house I have to get the boss (the wife) to agree before I can purchase one. She says I can have one only if my old one breaks. Well I’ve kicked it down the stairs, dropped it in the sea and sat on it, but it keeps working (that’s the phone not the wife)…so for now I’ll have to wait.

“…or the price of fish in Hong Kong, I can definitely find that out for you now on my new iPhone! with embedded 3G internet”

Embedded 3G Internet… It’ll be an embedded iPhone soon Terry ;-) !!

I’m only envious.

I've got a headache

Above: Miserable old bugger (Only kidding)

It official......Terry finally retired yesterday from the Ambulance Service.

So after training last night we "popped" round his house to share a soft drink and wish him well.

The good news.......he hasn't left the Coastguard

The bad news, that queue at the post office on Tuesday morning has one extra person in it!

I guess with the extra time he has he can use the buses a little more, well it is free isn't Terry?

From the team our very best wishes.

Our Terry

Many locals will know 'our Terry', well in about a week Terry will be hanging up his Paramedic uniform for the last time after 29 years service.

Just after this photo was taken we were working together again on Studland beach with a male with chest pains.

Its thanks to Terry we are skilled to deal with incidents like that, giving us confidence to get 'stuck in', and making the casualty comfortable until the paramedics arrive.

So it was special that as usual when working with Terry, there is only one way to go.....that's upwards. Terry has a special hand signal when he wants the casualty to be flown to hospital and this is something we will miss.

On a busy Sunday afternoon, clearing a large patch of beach for the Air Ambulance to land is not easy, but another little plan we had worked on over the last few months with the National Trust came into being......job done
