Keep Clear of the base of cliffs

Whilst the slips aren't as big as those at West Bay this week, the slips at the North End of the bay still pose a danger.

We recommend if you are walking along the beach you keep away from the base of the cliff.

Never sit directly underneath a cliff as the risk of debris falling on you is high.

What NOT to do on your holidays

An off duty team member out for a walk yesterday with their family was shocked to see this person using the mile markers as a climbing frame.

Not that they should actually be on this piece of MOD property, they had no safety equipment and had a gust of wind blown them off they probably would have ended up in the ravine at Tilly Whim.

We like people enjoying the countryside , the views and the outdoors but please do not put yourself or others at risk.

Dont drink and drown

The MCA runs a campaign to reduce the number of incidents related to drinking related drownings - 7000 people in the last 15 years drowned in the UK, 1000 of these were drink related.

In the last 3 months in Swanage we have seen several incidents where people have ended up in the water after going late night drinking........

We want people to enjoy themselves this New Year Eve, we do not want to join the Police knocking on someone's door in the early hours of January 1st to break bad news.

Drink sensibly - alcohol and the sea don't mix - the sea temperature is approaching its coldest.
