It doesn't take much to work out that 13 volunteers covering 24 hours a day can at times mean due to sickness, holiday, family and work commitments we just don't have the cover we would like.
This is where the Coastguard service relies on the flank stations and in our case the St Albans team to help out.
People may have wondered yesterday what was happening when two teams were sent to an incident but this was purely the case of the St Albans team coming into town to support us.
To provide two people on call day and night is quite a task at times and requires a lot of work behind the scenes (what ever did we do before text messages?). to ensure someone is about.
