Dog rescued at Old Harry

A family walk to Old Harry turned into an emergency this afternoon when “Lillii” took a tumble over the cliff falling about 80ft.

Coastguard teams from Swanage and St Albans (Worth) were tasked by Solent Coastguard who received the 999 call from the family. On arrival the Coastguard team made the decision to request the lifeboat as it would be a safer recovery rather than deploying a Coastguard down the cliff to the small bay.

Both Swanage RNLI Lifeboats were tasked with the inshore lifeboat heading in shore to pick up the dog.

The lifeboat then headed to South beach to meet other Coastguards and the family.

lillii was taken straight to a vet and we have just heard there has been fractures to a knee joint and toes.  She will be staying at the Vets for a few days.

The family thanked everyone involved today.

Ordnance located

Yesterday colleagues from St Albans Coastguard were called to Chapmans Pool after a member of the public located some possible grenades on the beach.

Whether the recent cliff falls had uncovered them or they washed in the items required the attendance of a bomb disposal team.

This morning a Royal Navy team were tasked from Portsmouth to Chapmans Pool with St Albans Coastguard and also Swanage Coastguard.

The Team assessed the items and due to their condition they decided to detonate them on the beach.  With Coastguards providing a cordon the items were cleared.

Coastguard’s at Chapmans Pool which has suffered badly from recent cliff falls in the bad weather.

First Call of the year

Just before 13.00 on the 1st the team were tasked to Middle Beach to a lady fallen on the beach injuring her hip.

On arrival the team provided some casualty care and prepared to carry the patient to the ambulance.  Due to the injury and pain , the Coastguard team waited for the arrival of the ambulance crew to give some treatment before the stretcher carry could be concluded.

The lady was taken to Poole hospital for treatment and got back to the station just before 16.00.
