Injured Climbers

 The team were tasked to support colleagues from St Albans at Winspit with a climber who had fallen with leg injuries.  

Coastguard teams from St Albans, Swanage and Kimmeridge were tasked along with the Rescue helicopter from Lee on Solent , South Western Ambulance and Dorset and Wilts Fire and Rescue. 

A further climber also fall  having raised the alarm and had a possible broken ankle. 

Both climbers received treatment with the first climber airlifted to Poole and the second climber stretchered out to an ambulance. 

High Fire Risk

 With the dry weather the risk of fire has increased so just a reminder that within the Purbeck area there should not be any BBQ’s , outdoor cooking or fires on the Heathlands or forest areas.  

Update

 

A small update from the last week. 

The team have dealt with a broken leg near to the sailing club last Thursday and gave first aid until the ambulance arrived. 

The patrol on Saturday located a drifting sailing dinghy and then found the owners who were unaware it had drifted off.  Along with colleagues from SWAST, Dorset Police , Coastguard Helicopter and the air ambulance the team were tasked to Henbury to for an injured climber. Thankfully on arrival the injuries were not as bad as first thought so the Coastguard teams assisted in transporting the casualty to the ambulance. 

Yesterday the team were tasked to the zigzag area at Durlston to a female fallen from a rope swing. The team provides first aid until the ambulance arrived.

Submerged boat at Studland

 The team were paged yesterday teatime to a report of a small boat sinking in the surf line at Knoll beach. 

On arrival a small boat was located submerged and with concern for the owner, coastguard rescue officers were deployed into the water to check the boat. Just as they entered the water the owner appeared saying he had anchored the boat and been for a walk. 

With the owner safe, the next step was to prevent pollution from the fuel kept on board. Several fuel cans were removed along with other items to ensure they didn’t float away.  The boat was anchored and with the owner safe it was left with him to recover the boat at a safe point during a low tide. 

Earlier in the day the team had located a missing child and assisted a kite surfer with recovering some equipment. 

On returning to the station after the sunken boat information was received regarding a missing person in town and the team prepared to deploy to start searching. Thankfully the police located the person safely. 

Inflatable sparks a search

 

The team were tasked on Thursday afternoon to a report of an inflatable with a person on it being blown out to sea. 

A passing lifeboat located the inflatable but with no one with it.  Poole lifeboat , Poole , Southbourne and Swanage Coastguard teams carried out a shore line search.  

With no one reported missing and full searches carried units were stood down. 

Routes , tracks and paths

 

So things will start to change from Monday and to ensure we can still get places, the team have been out checking critical routes. 

Following strict guidelines the teams throughout the area are starting to prepare for Easter. 

Please adhere to the COVID guidelines and ensure you protect frontline services. 

Ensure your activity is planned and prepared for, consider your fitness levels and perhaps just do a little bit to build up your stamina.

Beacon of remembrance

 At 8pm we joined the nation to remember the last year and those who lost their lives in the pandemic. 

Sheps Hollow

 Sheps Hollow is currently closed to the public just to the steps falling away. Sadly despite the dangers people are still using this route. 

 

Team called to item on the beach

 

The team were tasked to an  object on the beach this evening after a member of the public was concerned it was possible ordnance. 

Arriving on scene this metal ball was located and assessed. Having confirmed it was safe the item was marked and removed above  the high water mark for disposal at a later date. 

The call was the correct thing to do after recent storms have washed up several strange objects along the coast.
